Cozy Inn for a quiet night, midweek?
A great overnight stay, which ticked all of the boxes. The restaraunt and bar were a pleasure to be in, with the old world feel heightened. The real ale was well kept, and the staff were the very best of company. There were only a couple of others staying that night, and I didn't see any locals.

Friendly Hotel.
The hotel retained its character while having the amenities required in this day & age. It is a shame you can’t go down into the bear pit but can view it from the top ( I understand this is due to health & safety). You wouldn’t know the bear pit existed unless the carpet was pulled back or you were told about it. The staff at the hotel & the duty manager were very helpful & friendly making the stay an enjoyable relaxing experience & one I would recommend to anyone.

Quite a Find - Definitely one for a return stay
We found the Bear quite by chance, needing a room for just a night - and were not disappointed. A delightful village - where else would you find a rocking-horse shop??? Room with 4-poster was lovely, staff accommodating and friendly, good facilities - had it not been late-ish Sunday, we would have sampled the restaurant menu, which looks one to follow up on the next visit. Happy to recommend it.

Very clean, lots of character, friendly staff, good value
We had a front bedroom which was a tad noisy as it was facing the main road, but nevertheless we would stay there again. Breakfast wasn't until 09.00 which was a bit late for us as we are early risers, but to be fair we didn't ask if we could have it any earlier. Unfortunately can't comment on the food as we left before breakfast

The Best Breakfast Ever
Used for business use, so didn't arrive until late, the hotel was great, but the breakfast in the morning was the best breakfast ever and will definately stay here again when next working in the area.

Two night stay
Extreamly quite pub with a good selection of local beers (Shropshire Gold very good) no TV which I liked, only two staff on duty but they were very plesent and helpfull. I only had one main meal which was excellent (Gammon & chips) the gammon was like a piece of steak and the chips were hand cut and cooked (very rare these days) nice selection on offer.
Breakfaast was very good (full English) a little short on toast but extra came when asked for (very good chef)
The room was basic, bathroom a little worn & dated (carefull of the hot water) but the main room was clean and presentable, I stopped in room 1 which had a four poster bed which my wife would have liked. The front window catch was broken and to get fresh air the window banged when left open. No telephone in the room which would have been nice, free wi-fi for business bookings, mobile reception very poor but thats not the fault of the pub.
Hodnet is a very quiet Shropshire village with some very old buildings nice for a stroll around at night, nice church.
All in all I found the stay basic but plesent and comfortable.

Fantastic value for money
I would definately recommend this venue. I stayed in a room with a four poster bed. The bathroom was quite old but it was clean and everything worked. A small TV but for 1 night it was fine. I was made very welcome by the hostess. I couldn't stay for breakfast in the morning as leaving very early, so the chef made me a sandwich for the next morning and an apple. Very thoughful and it was very nice. I will definately go again if I am in the area.

Cheap, cheerful and clean

Excellent hospitality and lovely atmosphere.
The food was first class and though I am not a breakfast eater I was sorely tempted!
The room was functional and perfectly adequate although the bed was very soft and not to my taste. Overall I would recommend highly

Nice country pub
The first room I stayed had a problem. It was quite a hot day but the window was difficult to open. Then I moved another room the other side of the house.
The room was a little bit smaller, no bath but a shower. Anyway I preferd this room with a church view. Nice staffs ,food and drink.

Bear Necessities
The Bear is full of character and, now with a by-pass, Hodnet merits an evening stroll. Food in restaurant (bar really) is not bad and good value. Beer is excellent (Hobsons & Shropshire). Rooms are more rooms above pub than true hotel. Adequate for the commercial traveller, but very much less than luxourius. Lumpiest bed I have felt (and I mean felt) in years. Fortunately the beer enable me to sleep well anyway. Cant complain though (although I did mention the bed) as at the price I paid it was very good value for money.
